Privacy policy

The short version: this website doesn't track you, set cookies or ask for any of your details. A few outside services (Google Fonts, and YouTube if you choose to play a video) do see your IP address, and this page explains how.

Who we are

Terra Vitae is made by a solo developer and published by WhiteFish Creative Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 11042372), whose registered office is at 3rd Floor, 86-90 Paul Street, London, England, EC2A 4NE. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean WhiteFish Creative Limited.

We are the controller for any personal data processed by this website, under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, and under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR) for visitors in the European Union.

What this website collects

Almost nothing. This website is a set of static pages. It has no accounts, no sign-up forms, no newsletter, no comments, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. We don't build profiles of visitors, and we never sell or share personal data.

We don't keep any logs. The website is a set of static files hosted by Netlify, which may have Cloudflare in front of it. To deliver a page to you, they have to receive your IP address and the request your browser makes, as any website's host does. We don't receive, keep or look at that information; any technical records Netlify or Cloudflare keep are covered by their own privacy policies (linked below).

If you email us, we'll receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. We use it only to reply, and keep it only as long as the conversation needs.

The devlog has an RSS feed (blog/feed.xml). If you subscribe, your own feed reader fetches it from this website like any other page; we don't know who subscribes.

Cookies and similar technologies

This website sets no cookies of its own and stores nothing in your browser (no localStorage or similar). That's why there's no cookie banner. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), and the equivalent EU rules, consent is needed before storing or reading information on your device; we don't do either.

If you choose to play a devlog video, YouTube may then store information in your browser, as explained below. Nothing from YouTube loads until you press play.

Third parties

ServiceWhen it's involvedWhat it receives
NetlifyEvery page. Netlify hosts the website's files.Your IP address and the request your browser makes, so it can send you the page.
Cloudflare (if used)Every page, if it sits in front of Netlify to deliver the site quickly and protect it from attacks.Your IP address and the request your browser makes, so it can pass the page on to you.
Google Fonts (Google)Every page. The site's fonts load from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com.Your browser contacts Google, so Google receives your IP address and standard request information.
YouTube (Google)Only if you press play on a devlog video. Videos then load from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. From that point YouTube receives your IP address and may use cookies or similar technologies, under its own policies.
Steam (Valve Corporation)Only if you follow a link to the Steam store (store.steampowered.com) to wishlist the game. Nothing from Steam is embedded here.Once you're on Steam, Valve's privacy policy applies.

These services are run by their own companies and use your information under their own policies:

International transfers

Netlify, Cloudflare, Google and Valve are based in the United States, so when your browser fetches this website, contacts Google Fonts or YouTube, or you visit Steam, your IP address may be processed in the US and elsewhere. These companies rely on recognised safeguards for such transfers, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. See their privacy policies (linked above) for details.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you have the right to:

Because this website collects so little, in most cases we won't hold anything that identifies you. If you'd like to use any of these rights, email us (see Contact us). It's free, and we'll reply within one month. For data held by Google or Valve, contact them directly.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first and we'll try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or, if you live in the EU, to the data protection supervisory authority in your country.

Visitors outside the UK and EU

This website is open to visitors worldwide. Wherever you are, the same approach applies: no tracking, no profiles, no cookies of our own. For visitors in California (under the CCPA, as amended by the CPRA) and other US states with similar laws: we do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising. If your local law gives you rights over your personal data, contact us and we'll help.

Children

This website is for a general audience. It doesn't collect personal data directly from anyone, children included. If you think a child has emailed us personal information and you'd like it removed, let us know and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If the website changes in a way that affects your privacy (for example, if we add a newsletter or change hosts), we'll update this page before the change goes live and change the “Last updated” date at the top.
